Tango Argentino [Atlantic, 1986]
Nurtured by pimps in the teeming suburbs of immigrant Buenos Aires, the tango symbolized salaciousness early in the century--just like the waltz early in the last, I know, but listen to the painstakingly authentic (which sure doesn't mean untheatrical) recreations on this original-cast album and you begin to understand how melodrama can go to the gonads. You can almost see the ebony-haired temptress snake her tongue down her partner's throat as he grinds his thigh into her pubis, both of them hating each other's guts all the while.
