Buffy Sainte-Marie: Moonshot [Vanguard, 1972]
Because there's something almost perversely machinelike about her vibrato, more Yoko Ono than Judy Collins, I've never been comfortable relegating this particular folkie to the crystal teardrop brigade. Here she finally does something overtly perverse--comes out of Nashville with what sounds in its most interesting moments like an art-pop record (with politics, of course). Those who love or even respect her are dismayed. I say her next step is to take up the Moog.
